Acquire or Develop Talent: The Tanglewood organization currently does not have a strong process in acquiring or developing new talent. From the case study we find that Tanglewood would like to focus on having a workforce of committed, qualified individuals who will continue the Tanglewood tradition; yet they have no solid recruiting process into place. The Tanglewood organization also has opportunity around their development process, understanding they want team members to feel valued and know that their opinions count, but just because a team member makes influential suggestions does not necessarily qualify them to be leaders. If you compare their revenue to other retail stores in their industry they are trending in the positive and far above stores similar to them in size. It is my recommendation that they outsource not only for HR reasons but also for goods. Tanglewood could take advantage of the cheaper prices of merchandise if they outsource, which overall would affect their revenue growth. Attract or Relocate: Currently Tanglewood is understaffed, for example: Eastern Washington has 25 store locations and 3,120,000 in potential customers and 124, 800 customers per store with a total of 5, 400 employees to cover the 25 stores. If you divide the number of stores by the number of employees that is 216 employees to service 124, 800 customers, which is about 570 customers per employee. If Tanglewood really wants to provide the personalized service for their customers my recommendation would be to overstaff. Though they have built a strong culture and a great employee experience, it is only going to help improve their employee experience, customer experience by having more than enough coverage. Another view on the overstaffing is the fact that Tanglewood is a retail company; they may need more staff during peak seasons such as holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Around the age of four, I was deposited on the doorstep of Somerset Primary’s Infant Block for my first day in kindergarten. In what can only be described as fate, I found my best friend among that sea of little children. From across the room, our eyes met. At that moment I just knew. Like recognizes like. Her name was Kianna and although neither of us had realized it yet we would be together for the rest of our lives. Through the years, I have been able to compose my own definition of what friendship truly is. It is difficult to describe Kianna in simple terms, like my confidante or comforter. In essence, she is self-sufficient, hard-working, and deeply wise, all traits that have allowed me to establish the type of person I want to be. In fact, she is someone that I cannot help but look up to. I find it admirable that Kianna is the epitome of independence. Primarily, Kianna showcases her independence through being able to take care of herself. Looking back now, I realize that I did not endure the same struggles as the people I grew up with. I have been blessed with parents who are able to provide, and I will never stop being grateful for that. Consider the Two night scenes Julius Caesar (1.3, 2.1) Essay In the introductory scenes of Julius Caesar, Rome remains a democratic country. However, as the play progresses, rumour has it that Caesar is scheming to take a Kings crown and rule the empire. Through manipulation and skill, his popularity increases. He falsely impresses upon the masses that he is modest and has no such desires for power and domination of the people of Rome. Cassius is immensely passionate to conserve Romes democracy and he fears Caesar will rule over their freedom of speech. The Romans had expelled their monarchy centuries earlier. They enjoyed a democratic, republican system of politics. Due to his fear, he writes to Brutus, a leading figure, for support in a conspiracy against Caesar. Cassius is fully aware that Brutus would give a moral standing, as, unlike himself, he is known for his rationality and calmness in such circumstances. Brutus is regarded as a loyal, devoted and well-respected man who can help to save Rome from its threatened tyranny. Through bravery and courage he surmounts Caesar before he can lay claim to the crown. Act 1, scene two creates a dramatic atmosphere. It erupts with a violent storm, deafening thunder and the most electrifying lightning. There appears to be a momentous tension rising in the ensuing darkness. It hints at the ominous approach of Cassius plot. The powerful effects suggest the storms are omens: The most mighty Gods, by token, send/ s Such dreadful heralds to astonish us. (l. 3:55-56) The thunder machine as well as Shakespeares vivid language set the scene. They create a feeling of terrifying darkness and absolute discord; necessary for a meeting of future murderers and conspirators. Severe storms and havoc in the sky were believed by the Romans and the Elizabethans to symbolise warnings from God or to forwarn people of oncoming trouble. They were believed to be symbolic or mirrors of disorder in the country. As stated, Casca directly relates events in the sky to the Gods, who are likely to send destruction. He believes that the supernatural happenings are portentous, that they can predict the future from them. Cassius becomes feared about Romes destiny, and presumes Caesar will rule if he does not react swiftly: Ye Gods, it does amaze me/ A man of such a feeble temper should/ So get the start of the majestic world, / And bear the palm alone. (l. 2. 28-130) Shakespeares Globe Theatre was roofless, performances took place in open air and daylight- scenes and their atmospheres were therefore effectively created through the speech of characters. The night is made to seem hellish and horrifying, and also of ominous significance. The tempest is dropping fire, and there are intense descriptions of supernatural sights, a lion that went surly by, ghastly women, and men all in fire. The world is stated to be too saucy with the Gods, so it incenses them to send destruction. Act 1 reveals Caesars sheer ambition, power and political skill, and demonstrates, in addition to Brutus, how all men are born equal and should remain so. That no man should have total control or power over another. Cassius believes that a king was totally unnecessary. Moreoever, Cassius even stretches to the extreme of threatening suicide if Caesar should rule: I had as lief not to be, as to live to be/ In awe of such a thing as myself. (l. 2: 95-96) Cassius speaks of Caesars cowardice, his coward lips (l. 2 122). This hints at his contempt and hate towards him. He encourages Brutus to help him overcome tyranny and thus prevent Caesar gaining a mis-guided supremacy in the majestic Roman world. Cassius lays blame on Rome itself for allowing Caesar to act as a big man: The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlinings. (l. 2 140-141) He feels ashamed and embarrassed of Caesar: Like a colossus we petty men/ Walk under his huge legs, and peep about/ To find ourselves dishonourable graves. (l. 2. 136-138). He fervently believes the most gullible people of Rome are unwittingly accepting his fake, beguiling, charm over them. Casca, in Act 1, reveals Caesars manipulation of the crowd: I saw Mark Antony offer him a crown, yet twas not a crown neither, twas one of these coronets; and as I told you, he put it by once: but all that to my vain thinking, he would fain have it. He takes a bitter attitude toward Caesar: He was loath to lay his fingers off it. He tells Brutus how the crowd clapped their/ chopped hands, and threw up their sweaty night-caps and/ uttered such a deal of stinking breath. (l. 2. 243-245) He then continues: I durst not laugh, for/ fear of opening my lips and receiving the bad air. (l. 2,247) This language gives the impression Caesar is testing the ground, as an educated politician would. He refuses the Kings crown thrice in order to appear truly modest and humble. His crafted manipulations increase his popularity with the crowd and so Casca, Cassius and Brutus arrange to meet the next day. The sudden rattling thunder adds dramatic point to Cascas speech. From Cassius reaction to the storm we also get an idea of Cassiuss character. Assess the importance of 'The Garden Scene' to the development of Twelfth Night EssayBrutus feels he should kill Caesar for the people of Rome: I know no personal cause to spurn at him but for the general. He likens killing Caesar now, to killing a serpent when it is an egg, rather than waiting until it is fully grown: Therefore, think him as a serpents egg/ which hatched would as his kind, grow mischievous,/ and kill him in the shell. (2. 1. 32-34) Brutus puts Rome before himself; this proves him a honourable man. He stays calm, weighs up the situation of Rome and how the people need to keep their democracy. Many generations had democracy, Brutus does not want to jeopardise this and admit defeat to tyranny. We feel obliged to sympathise with Brutus; he is in a situation many have been in. It is a possible dilemma anyone could face; he must kill someone he loves to save the country he loves. Brutus states his situation is like a phantasma, or a hideous dream. The conspirators intrude on Brutus soliloquy and are all welcome. They form a close relationship. Cassius thinks Antony should be killed at the same time as Caesar: Let Antony and Caesar fall together. (2. 2. 161) Brutus feels Antony is the only person that loves Caesar. He is also passionate about killing them both: Lets kill him boldly, but not, but not wrathfully; lets carve him as a dish fit for the Gods. (2. 2. 172-173) However, Brutus feels there is no need to kill Antony. He believes Antony would commit suicide. If he love Caesar, all that he can do is to himself, take thought, and die for Caesar. (2. 2. 186-189) For Antony is but a limb of Caesar. Brutus disagrees with killing Antony: Let us be sacrifices, not butchers. (2. 2. 166) He wants to kill the principle of tyranny, not Caesar and Antony. From, (2. 1), we understand Brutus and Portia have a close relationship. Portia obviously is concerned about Brutus phantasmas: stole from my bed: and yesternight at supper you suddenly arose, and walked about musing and sighing, with your arms cross. Brutus clearly cares for her too: Portia! What mean you? Wherefore rise you now? / It is not for your health thus to commit/ your weak condition to the raw, cold morning. (2. 1. 34-337) However, lines 240-247, he is described as having been out of character, hostile, and impatient toward her. He stared upon her with ungentle looks and too impatiently stamped his foot. Portia evidently wants Brutus to share his problem, so they can fight it together: Dear my Lord,/ make me aquatinted with your cause of grief. (2. 1. 255-256). They are married and Portia expects them to share their troubles: Within the bond of marriage, tell me Brutus,/ is it expected I should know no secrets/ that appertain to you. (2. 1. 80-283) Portia brings to Brutus attention, she is Catos daughter and of special worth: I grant I am a woman, but withal a woman well reputed, Catos daughter. (2. 1. 292-295) She is also of noble worth as she stabbed herself: I have made strong proof of my constancy/ giving myself a voluntary wound/ here in the thigh. Can I bear that with patience/ and not my husbands secrets? (2. 1. 299-301) This implies Portia, similar to Brutus, is of a noble character. There are many aspects of these two scenes which relates to later scenes in the play. However, 5. onwards, is in my opinion of most importance. Cassius orders Pindarius to kill him: Here, take thou the hilts, and when my face is covered, as tis now, guide thou the sword- Caesar, thou art revenged, even with the sword that killed thee. Earlier, Cassius stated he would rather choose death than defeat: I know where I will wear this dagger then; Cassius from bondage will deliver Cassius. This reflected his noble and patriotic nature. In Act 5 scene 5, Brutus is haunted by Caesars ghost: The ghost of Caesar hath appeared to me I know my hour has come. He knows it is time for him to die. He is troubled by his actions, of stabbing Caesar in the Capitol. For Cassius did not encounter Caesars ghost, only Brutus, therefore, he feels he is the guilty one. Brutus friends refuse to kill him. This shows the great love they had for him. Proving he was a loyal and worthy man. Brutus feels he shall have glory by losing this day (5. 5 6) implying he has done right by his country. The irony of the play is highlighted as Brutus was the noblest Roman of them all. Antony only, unfortunately, realises this at the end , after his death. Even though the play is titled Julius Caesar, Brutus appears the victorious one.

In this research paper, I am going to discuss some of the medical experiments that were done to the prisoners by Nazi doctors. All restrictions were gone, and these doctors could do whatever they wanted. Many of these prisoners endured pain, and agony, to further the Nazi doctor’s research. While these people were suffering with the pain of their bodies slowly freezing, the doctors would measure the changes in their body temperature, heart rate, and other factors. When a prisoner’s body temperature reached 80 °F, the doctors would use different methods of rewarming them. These included sleeping bags, scalding baths, internal irrigation (blistering hot water would be irrigated into the prisoner’s stomach), and the doctors would even force naked women to copulate with the near frozen prisoner. These resuscitation experiments were usually just as painful and deadly as the freezing experiments. The Experiments) In order to find the best way to save German pilots when they were forced to eject from their fighter planes at high altitude, they conducted experiments in which prisoners would be placed in chambers with a low pressure atmosphere. This was to simulate the altitudes, as high as 70,000 feet. The doctors monitored the prisoner’s physical and psy chological responses as they slowly and painfully succumbed to their demise. Afterwards, the doctors would dissect the prisoner’s brain, sometimes while they were still alive, to show the formation of small air bubbles in the brain’s blood vessels. As many as two hundred patients were tested on, and around eighty died on the spot. The rest were then executed in the gas chambers. (The Experiments, Josef Mengele and The Medical Experiments) The experiments to test the effectiveness of sulfanilamide and other drugs against infection for the purpose of helping the German Army were performed since many front line soldiers suffered from persistent and deadly gangrene. Doctors would inflict battlefield-like wounds in prisoners. They would then rub glass, wood, metal, and bacteria into the wound, resulting in infection. Blood vessels were tied with a tourniquet to simulate what would actually happen to an actual war wound on the front lines. Since the infection would become so deadly, many prisoners died. Others endured serious injury and agony. (Josef Mengele and The Medical Experiments, Remember. org, The Experiments) Seawater experiments were conducted to find out how to make seawater drinkable. Dr. Hans Eppinger, and other doctors, at the concentration camp located in Dachau conducted these experiments. They forced about ninety Gypsies to drink seawater only, while being deprived of food. Obviously since the salt content of the water causes the body to retain more salt, and lose more water, which is why seawater is undrinkable, these experiments caused serious bodily injury, major dehydration, and an enormous amounts of pain and suffering. The Gypsies were so dehydrated and so desperate for water, they reportedly â€Å"licked the floored after they had been mopped just to get a drop of fresh water. † (The Experiments, Remember. org) Experiments were conducted to find an antidote to phosgene, a toxic gas use as a weapon during World-War I. At Fort Ney near Strasbourg, France, Nazi doctors exposed roughly 52 concentration camp prisoners to the phosgene gas. This gas caused extreme irritation to the prisoners’ lungs. Many of the prisoners suffered pulmonary edema after the exposure. Four died as a result of the experiments. (The Experiments) Josef Mengele, a Nazi doctor stationed at Auschwitz, was called the â€Å"Angel of Death†. Many times he would be the one who was in charge of â€Å"selection†. He had the power to decide the fate of the prisoner; he had the power of life and death over them. He was in charge of the many experiments conducted at Auschwitz. The experiments he is most known for are genetic experiments, and the experimentations on twins. (Josef Mengele) Many of those who were experimented on were children. They were kept separate from the other inmates. They were called Mengele’s children. Some of the younger children would call Dr. Mengele, Uncle Mengele, since he would offer them sweets. Mengele’s children usually have certain privileges, such as being able to keep their hair for the first few days of the examinations, a small amount of extra food, and being spared from the beatings of the guards. However, even being treated slightly better, the excruciating pain and death from the experiments were inevitable. (Josef Mengele) The most important goal of the Nazis was to create the master race of the Aryans. They were to have blonde hair, blue eyes, and have pure German blood. Mengele was determined to find out the secret to creating this â€Å"perfect† Aryan race. He would apply eye drops, or inject chemicals into the children’s eyes in an attempt to change brown eyes to the preferred blue. Most of the time, the excruciating pain would leave the children blind for a day or more, and then return to normal. But at least one child would become permanently blind. Mengele would apply dyes to children’s scalps to see if the color can be controlled. Often times this would burn the scalp of the children. Blood test were taken and transfused in order to see which blood types mixed, and which blood types didn’t. He believed that twins held the key to unlocking the genetics to the Aryan race. When twins would arrive to the camp, the SS would yell out â€Å"Twins, twins! An Eva Mozes, a twin survivor from the camp recalls her experience â€Å"As I clutched my mother’s hand, an SS man hurried by shouting, ‘Twins, twins! ’ he stopped to look at us. Miriam and I looked very much alike. We were wearing similar clothes. ‘Are they twins? ’ he asked my mother. ‘Is that good? ’ replied my mother. He nodded yes. ‘They ar e twins,’ she said. † Twins were kept in separate barracks from the others in the camp. Sometimes they were given special treatment. Unfortunately, this treatment was short-lived. Of the three thousand twins who entered the camp, only two hundred survived to see the end of the war. They received blood tests on a daily basis, had surgeries performed without anesthesia, had transfusions from one twin to the other. One set of Gypsy twins were sewn to each other’s back. (Josef Mengele) One twin recalls the death of his brother. â€Å"Dr. Mengele had always been more interested in Tibi. I am not sure why—perhaps because he was the older twin. Mengele made several operations on Tibi. One surgery on his spine left my brother paralyzed. He could not walk anymore. Then they took out his sexual organs. After the fourth operation, I did not see Tibi anymore. I cannot tell you how I felt. It is impossible to put into words how I felt. They had taken away my father, my mother, my two older brothers and now, my twin† Mengele performed autopsies on twins who died from the experiments. Censorship Of Music Essays - Gangsta Rappers,

Censorship Of Music Recently we have been hearing a lot about the need for censorship of television and recording industries. Whether it is the cartoon Beavis and Butthead, the controversial television drama NYPD Blue or rap recording artists, someone always seems to arguing about their negative effects on society and the need for government regulation. Being a fan of rap, I am particularly interested in issues effecting regulation of the recording industry and rap artists. Popular "gangsta rappers" include Dr. Dre, Snoop Doggy Dog, Tupac Shakur, Ice Cube, and Ice Tea. Many are outraged at the explicit lyrics of the songs and the lifestyles of these artists. Snoop Doggy Dog and Tupac Shakur are two of the most publicized "gansta rappers" whose songs contain explicit lyrics and who have been indicted for criminal activities. Snoop Doggy dog is a native of Long Beach, California. His mother named him Snoopy because of his long face and droopy ears. Growing up, Snoop was a member of the Golgotha Trinity Baptist youth choir and an excellent basketball player. However , shortly after his graduation from high school, he landed in jail for possession of cocaine. Recently Snoop was arrested for murder. On August twenty- fifth Snoop was driving his late model Jeep in Palms, California. He met up with Philip Woldemar iam, who according to Snoop's attorney, had a long history of threatening Snoop. Snoop's bodyguard shot Woldermariam twice in the back, killing him. On December eighth, Snoop was arraigned for murder, but later found innocent. Many of the lyrics i n Snoop's songs degrade women, encourage the use of marijuana and glorify violence against authority. Another publicized case involves rapper Tupac Shakur. Many know him for his starring role in the movie "Poetic Justice" with Janet Jackson. Tupac Shakur's song "Keep Ya Head Up" contains such lyrics as "I wonder why we take from our women Why we rape our women Do we hate our women? I think it's time we care for our women Time to heal our women." Despite the lyrics encouraging men to respect women, Shakur was recently arrested for sexually abusing a woman in a midtown hotel. This arrest came two weeks after Shakur was arrested for allegedly shooting two off duty police officers after a traff ic dispute in Atlanta. Proponents of rap feel that all rappers are protected under the first amendment. They also feel that rap is a cultural art form, reflecting ghetto life and that criticism of rap is another form of racism. One of the men who has been influential in speaking out against "gangsta rap", its explicit lyrics and unworthy role models is the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Jackson states," Anyone, white or black, who makes money calling our women bitches and our people niggers will have to face the wrath of our indignation." The Reverend Calvin Butts, the minister of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, has also mounted a crusade against explicit music. Last summer he held a rally at which he ran over offending tapes and CDs with a steamrolle r. The vice- president of the United States wife, Tipper Gore, has launched her own crusade. In her book, Raising PG Kids in an X-rated Society , she takes the music industry to task for glamorizing sex and violence in material targeted to kids. She has encouraged record companies to label all albums and tapes that have sexually explicit lyrics. Also, radio stations such a KACE-FM in Los Angeles are adopting policies to ban all songs that degrade women or promote drugs and violence. To determine the views of students here on the need for censorship of the recording industry, I conducted a survey which posed the following questions: 1. Do you listen to Rap music? Seventy percent of the respondents indicated that they listened to Rap music on a regular basis. 2. Do you own any Rap CDs or tapes with explicit lyrics? Forty percent of those surveyed indicated that thy did. 3. Do you think Rap lyrics are a bad influence on society? Seventy-five percent believed that the lyrics had a negative influence on society. 4. Do you think that the government should censor Rap recordings? Only five percent of the respondents believed it was the government's responsibity to censor Rap. One thing is clear and that is that there are strong opinions on both sides of the issue. In my opinion, the worst solution would be to allow the government to legislate what can be written, what TV shows can be aired and what music can

8 Ways to Tell If a Website Is Reliable For every reputable website, there are dozens chock full of information thats inaccurate, unreliable or just plain nutty. For the unwary, inexperienced journalist  or researcher, such sites can present a minefield of possible problems. With that in mind, here are eight ways to tell if a website is reliable. 1. Look for Sites from Established Institutions The internet is full of websites that were started five minutes ago. What you want are sites associated with trusted institutions that have been around for awhile and have a proven track record of reliability and integrity. Such sites may include those run by government agencies, non-profit organizations,  foundations, or colleges and universities. 2. Look for Sites with Expertise You wouldnt go to an auto mechanic if you broke your leg, and you wouldnt go to the hospital to have your car repaired. Im making an obvious point: Look for websites that specialize in the kind of information youre seeking. So if youre writing a story on a flu outbreak, check out medical websites, such as the Centers for Disease Control, and so on. 3. Steer Clear of Commercial Sites Sites run by companies and business - their websites usually end in .com - are more often than not trying to sell you something. And if theyre trying to sell you something, chances are whatever information theyre presenting will be tilted in favor of their product. Thats not to say corporate sites should be excluded entirely. But be wary. 4. Beware of Bias Reporters write a lot about politics, and there are plenty of political websites out there. But many of them are run by groups that have a bias in favor of one political party or philosophy. A conservative website isnt likely to report objectively on a liberal politician, and vice versa. Steer clear of sites with a political ax to grind and instead look for ones that are non-partisan. 5. Check the Date As a reporter you need  the most up-to-date information available, so if a website seems old, its probably best to steer clear. One way to check - look for a last updated date on the page or site. 6. Consider  the Sites Look If a site looks poorly designed and amateurish, chances are it was created by amateurs. Steer clear. But be careful - just because a website is professionally designed doesnt mean its reliable. 7. Avoid Anonymous Authors Articles or studies whose authors are named are often - though not always - more reliable than works produced anonymously. It makes sense: If someone is willing to put their name on something theyve written, chances are they stand by the information it contains. And if you have the name of the author, you can always Google them to check their credentials. 8. Check the Links Reputable websites often link to each other. You can find out which other websites link to the site youre researching by conducting a link-specific Google search. Enter the following text into the Google search field, replacing [WEBSITE] with the domain of the site youre researching: link:[WEBSITE].com The search results will show you which websites link to the one youre researching. If lots of sites are linking to your site, and those sites seem reputable, then thats a good sign.

This is proven in a document released by The University of the State of New York?and The State Education Department?Office of Vocational and Education Services ?for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID). It states: According to Test Access and Accommodations for Students with Disabilities (2006), â€Å"All students, including students with disabilities, are expected to learn and achieve high standards.   To meet this goal, students with disabilities must have access to general education curriculum courses, electives and required assessments.   This was affirmed in 1997 when the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was amended to require that students with disabilities, including students with severe cognitive disabilities through the development of a State alternate assessment, participate in State and districtwide a ssessments† (pgh. 1). Further, it has been noted that appropriate testing accommodations can and shall have been made in order to take into account the fact that there are several different types of differently-abled learners. What should matter is that these students are given the same types of opportunities as students in regular and Honors courses to achieve their best, at whatever level of schooling they are at—but especially in high school so they are adequately prepared to move on to higher education beyond the secondary level. According to Test Access and Accommodations for Students with Disabilities (2006), â€Å"IDEA 2004 further strengthened this requirement by adding several new provisions that will ensure that students have access to State tests and that test results are valid and...
